How to Easily Resize Multiple Images in Photoshop

Photoshop Automation

There are tons of repetitive tasks in Photoshop that are time-consuming. Thankfully, Photoshop has the ability to create an automated action that runs for you. While this reduces some actions to a button press, you can still find yourself manually running the automation each time. What you may not realize is that Photoshop has a feature that can automatically apply an action on a larger scale. Today, I'll show you how you can perform a time-consuming task, like resizing hundreds of images, in a matter of minutes and without having to click the play button over and over in the actions panel.

Step 1

Setup 2 folders anywhere on your computer. Name one of them as "Originals" and the other one as "Resized".

Step 2

Place all of your original images in the "Originals" folder.

Step 3

Open any image from your "Originals" folder in Photoshop.

Step 4

Go to Window> Actions to open the Actions Panel.

Step 5

Click on the "Create New Set" icon, name the set as "Resizing" and click OK.

Step 6

Next, click on the "Create New Action" icon, name the action as "Resize" and click the "Record" button. From now on, and until we click the "Stop Recording" icon, everything we do in Photoshop will be recorded.

Step 7

Go to Image > Size. Set the size you want to resize all the images in your folder and click OK. In this case, I will setup mines to be resized at 1200 px in width.

Step 8

Go to File > Save As. Locate the "Resized" folder you created on your computer and save your image in this folder without changing the file name.

Step 9

Go to File > Close and then click the "Stop Recording" icon in the Actions Panel.

Step 10

With the file already closed, go to File > Automate > Batch.

Step 11

In the Batch window, under "Play", select the action set we just created "Resizing", then in the Action option, select the "Resize" action.

Step 12

Next, under "Source" be sure to have the "Folder" option selected and click the "Choose" button. Locate the Source folder "Originals" on your computer and click the "Choose Folder" button.

Step 13

Under "Destination"be sure to have the "Folder" option selected and click the "Choose" button. Locate the Destination folder "Resized" on your computer and click the "Choose Folder" button.

Step 14

Now, simply click the OK button in the Batch window and all of your original images will be resized at the size you've set in the action and they all will be saved on your destination folder.
